Anyone redone a kitchen or anything and know of any good software to lay out and plan things?

I've been googling and it's nothing very definitive about what's the go to software. Mostly just Free crap that I'm not interested in.

Any suggestions?

You could use a 3d modeller like sketchup. It's doesn't take much time to get good enough at it to model typical kitchen stuff, since cabinets are usually boxy.

Chief is very good, solid builder might be better. Both are in the $2k range, and CA want's you to upgrade every year for a thousand bucks or so. I think both are overkill for someone planing their kitchen.

what about their cheaper offerings

like the 100 or 200 level ones

about 5 years ago i was thinking about buying some architecture software and wanted chief architect. but punch was the only thing around where i live. used the 7 day thing without registering because i could not figure out how to excavate the ground and even the pre built homes did not have excavated ground when the basement was already drawn. my reasoning was that if it can not do landscaping then it is more or less crap. the easy draw walls were nice though. might reinstall it and actually register it. also it cam with like 8 pre built homes. really. 20 to 30 would have been at least more reasonable. think the chief architect suite comes with like 1000 or more pre built home designs

I've never tried anything but the full blown version. So I can't really offer an opinion. A friend of mine tried to use punch to design his house a few years back, he couldn't produce a set of plans from it, I'm not sure why.
