Home Remedies: Cold Sore and/or Tongue Blister

I have what appears to be a sore/blister on my tongue. It has been there for about 3 days now. It doesnt appear to be healing very rapidly, and it can be VERY uncomfortable at times.

I am on a kibbutz in Israel and access to a pharmacy is limited.

Does anyone know of some possible home remedies to deal with this ?

vanilla extract right on it. will taste really bad, but it does help

i've noticed if i drink some OJ with some salt and have a good full 10-11 hours of sleep, the sore goes away a ton quicker.

dab salt directly onto it. let your tounge air dry as long as you can. repeat 2 or 3x's a day.

EDIT: yes, this will hurt like a sonabitch

try not to aggravate it with harsh foods. suck on some zinc losenges as zinc can inhibit viral replication. otherwise, just deal. so long as you don't chew on it or anything, it will subside once the virus is done. don't kiss anyone.

It's almost certainly not a cold sore; rather, as others have noted, a canker sore. I used to get canker sores all the time when I was younger, and I even had one on my tongue at one point. The canker sore on my tongue was quite possibly the most painful thing I had ever felt. It went away after a few days.

Again, canker sores are NOT a virus, thus lysine/etc. will not be helpful. Did you bite your tongue or something?

I cant remember if I bit my tongue, but I have the one large very painful sore on my tongue, a smaller one on my upper gum, and a tiny sore on thr right side of my mouth where my upper and lower lips meet.

I am also coming down with a cold (sore throat, headache).

I am taking zinc losenges and drinking lemon tea. I will also be using a salt water rinse 3 times a day.

will this really help ? if so I will do it, but it sounds more painfl than the sore itself.

I usually get canker sores when i'm about to become sick. My lymph nodes usually start to get pretty big around that time too.

Seems that you don't get them very often if one causes- be glad. I'm lucky to go more than a week without some sort of ulcer/canker sore somewhere in my mouth; they usually last almost 2 weeks. The doctors/dentists/orthodontists I've been to over the years haven't been able to prescribe/suggest anything that's been effective for me. Not good news I know...but seeing how you don't get them often (I'm assuming), it should be gone in a few days.
If there is any kind of general store nearby (not neccessarily a pharmacy) with a toothpaste section, check there for something like Orajel or Anbesol - something with benzocaine or a mild anesthetic in it. That'll help the pain go away for a little while anyway.
