@home problems

I have an account through @Home. I am using a Linksys router to connect the 5 computers in my home. Lately, I have been having connection problems. Internet Explorer just cannot go to any web site, however, I can access the web interface of the router. In addition, while IE can't access the net, I can still connect to AOL Instant Messenger and other Internet services. Two of the five computers in the house are running Windows XP while the other 3 are running Win9x. Only the XP computers are having problems. A friend suggested checking to see if the Firewall feature of XP is turned on and if so, to turn it off. But, the firewall feature wasn't turned on in either computer. I also tried going to the My Network Places properties and selecting the Repair option for my connection. Sometimes the Repair option will immediately release and renew my IP address, in which case everything works again for a good 90 seconds, after which IE goes dark again. Or, the Repair option will say the Repair option could not be completed because renewing the IP address failed.

Anybody else have this problem?

thanks,
don

If the DNS servers are the problem, then why is just IE going dark and not other programs like AIM, Telnet, etc?

<< It's @home's DNS servers. There all screwed up. Use another companys DNS for the next few days. >>

That may be so, but the aim clients wouldnt be able to connect. IF you look into the connection area there, you should notice that the login server is up there by name, not ip.

<< got any you can list >>

Do a whois on random companies. You will find dns servers listed at the bottom. Try and stick with isps though 😉

what?

find other dns servers... no- ummm- thanks for your help.. that's not the answer though.....

yo DON, hi... ummm... ya the switch over... here's the deal... I share my cable connection with my MOM lol..... umm. she has win98 and i use XP and we both use the linksly router or whatever it's called...

I know a temporary fix.............. if you goto your lan connection... and disable... then reenable....... you get 2 webpages to view! hehe..... then all the rest will give dns page not displayed errors....

i'm in xp now usin the cable... oh ya= this happened when i plugged the modem in directly also... my guess is that's it's an xp and @home issue.... must be..... cause like i said it happened without the router......

just remember for the mean time- untill we find a fix... ya can play online games, chat on msn, oh ya- aol will log in but as soon as ya use your 2 dns's yer outta luck... that's why the webpage will work right after a reboot or a login... wierd sheit.... we got exact same problem...

and finding a new dns server??? ummm.... where? someone give me some numbers please... can't search cause like i said i get only 2 dns pages that will appear before the bootoff= this includes banners adds and such..... so basically i get to view 1 or 2 pages... good thing is... you can view the entire site though.... like i could read all the threads on the forum before i'd have to do a disable lan connect then reconnect..

help!

<< hehhe,, tryin it now...... thanks >>

IF that does not work, use your 2 webpages to go to networksolutions.com and do a whois on mindspring or something, or arin.net to do a whois on ip addresses and "steal" a dns server from there.

ummm, ok....... i don't believe this.. 3 day's i been tryin to fix this.... seems to be workin fine now i think..... the one dns server ya gave seems to be ok...

why is it that windows 98 works fine though???? must be @homes new dns servers.. not compatable with xp somehow?????????????????

tax 10x mate!

Windows 98 does not work, it is your imagination. Seriously though, I have no clue why one Microsoft OS "works" while a newer one is "broken". It just does not make sense. Why would an 8' wookie live on Endor with... Sorry tangent..
