Home Office Personal Laser Printer

Hi there...I am sick and tired of running off the ink jet teat and want to finally get a laser for my home office.

I have heard some pretty good things about the Samsung 2552W (it's the wireless edition which makes me happy, has a large printing tray, and has a built in duplex!). Best of all, I can grab it for $300. The ONLY problem is that it isn't color. I will have a photo inkjet for color printouts but of course I really would rather have the laser print color too.

Do people like the Konica Magicolor 2400? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

I guess we dont already have enough threads on this.

I vote HP anytime a laser is mentioned. Color or not.
I know about the Konica, I have seen it at Staples too. But I dont know anyone who actually owns it.
I do know that HP's color lasers get cheaper every year. And yes I think you get a much better deal for your money.

We use crappy Lexmarks here at work. They cost us about 30 cents or so a sheet. My little HP LJ 1000 costs about 1-2 cents a sheet. But I cant convince them to buy any lasers for us.

As with all major purchases like this, I have a recommendation before you blow money on anything.

Go to a Staples or OfficeMax and ask for a demo sheet from the printers you like.
Most stores will do this if they think it will make them a sale.

Thanks...unfortunately they don't have the samsung 2552 in stores.

I was really interested in hearing some personal reviews of these printers...ease of setup, maintenence, issues, etc.

Basically I want the best network printer for around $300.

I tend to agree with shortylickens on this. HP makes some of the best laser printers out there and has for many years now. Laser printers are HP's bread & butter. You might also check out Canon's machines while you're doing your research. It would also be a good idea to find out what the machines' toner and drum cartridges cost and what their expected page yields are per cartridge. This plays a big role in what the machine really costs you over its lifetime.

I can't say I know a lot about the Konica Minolta machines, but I've read several reviews of their color laser printers over the last year or so in a few computer magazines. A complaint I've seen mentioned a few times is that banding marks are often seen on the printed pages with Konica Minolta laser machines, and flaws in the way they do the "dithering" of digital data may be the cause. So if it were me, I'd definitely do some in-person evaluating of a Konica Minolta machine before buying one. If the problem is minor, however, and you can live with it, they're definitely priced 'aggressively.'

If your budget allows, you might also check out Ricoh's machines. Good luck. 🙂

thanks for the replies. =) I think that Okidata would fit the bill perfectly.

It seems like this Samsung 2552 is a pretty high end printer for $300. Any thoughts between this and the Oki?

I see the pros for samsuns being 25ppm and wireless and the pros for Oki is the ability to print color.

Brother makes a networked laser under $200. Not sure of the model #. Their networked MF inkjet 4-in-one works pretty good. The networked feature, if you have more than one pc, is very nice.
