Home networking

I am looking to set up a home network for my family along with my business. The network will consist of 5 separate pcs. (1)One pc will be dedicated to a plotting machine. (2)Another will be used specifically for business records/information. (3)One will be a family computer used for various reasons (gaming, surfing, etc.). (4)One will be my daughters computer used for homeowrk, web, etc. (5)The last computer is my sons, a laptop with wireless capability used for everything. My question is: I have purchased a Netopia 9100 8 hub router and will be connecting all the pcs in a network which should be no problem. My son wants his laptop to have a wireless connection to be used anywhere around the house. Can I add a wireless NIC to the router hub and achieve this just for his pc? Will speed of internet connection be affected (bottlenecked) by gaming and use of other pcs simultaneously online ?

A wireless card goes only on Computers to make them Wireless.

You need to buy an Access Point and plug it to one of the Router/Switch regular port.

Example for and Access Point: http://www.compusa.com/products/product...formics&product_code=300874&pfp=BROWSE

You can find less expensive Wireless Cable/DSL Router and use it as an Access Point

Link to: Using a Wireless Cable/DSL Router as a Switch with an Access Point

Internet connection is rated at max ?Speed? available and all computers use it, I.e. the more computer are used at the same time the less Bandwidth is available to every one.

Whether it is going to create a Bottle Neck or not, depends on the ?Speed? that you get from the ISP and the surfing habits.

Jack, thanks alot that is the direction I was looking for!
I think I was confusing myself through all the reading, not ever having delt with the networking aspect before.
I think I will go with the access point. That seems to be the best route.
I greatly appreciate your help!
Thanks again
James
