Ok, I have decided to build another comp using some parts of my old old old old computers. All im going to by is a duron, mobo, and a nice vid card for it, maybe even a case but not really necessary.

What I want to do is, I want to connect this future computer to my current roadrunner connection with this pentium3 that I am using right now.

Here are my questions since I'm a networking newbie:
:D Hope you guys can help me out!

1) What do I need? Like, what's the difference in between a hub, switch, and a router? I hope I can connect at least 2 comps total.

2) RoadRunner has that extra $10/mo to connect another computer to the existing RR account, do I have to do that?

3) If not, does RoadRunner allow it?

4) Whats a stable/overclockable motherboard for the duron?

Appreciate any help!

1) for a basic setup, you will need two NICs in the PC connected to the cable modem, another NIC in the client PC, and a crossover cable... no need for hubs/switches to connect 2 PCs... However if you plan to connect more PCs later, get a hub/switch... if you like to find out more about the difference btw hub/switch/router, do a search of this forum... cuz this exact question was answered a couple of days ago...

2) no

3) Technically they don't allow sharing 1 IP with multiple PCs... but they don't care as long as you dont use up too much of their bandwidth...

4) I am sure some hardware guru's can answer this as I am not sure...
