hey guys im trying to set up a home network, or rather i have, but it seems on my old pc when i go into network workgroups, i can open and explore both pcs but on my new pc i cant explore my old pc. really annoying because i cant set up shared printer. im thinking it has something to do with which one i chose as the host pc. anyway i would like to make it so that i CAN share the printer the other way. so 1st, how do i remove the network settings i have created in windows, and 2nd, which one do i do the network wizard on first if i want to be able to use the printer from the new pc if its connected to the old pc.

my new pc has XP SP2 and my old pc has SP1 it think

thanks in advance.

In your type of Network there is No Host, it is Peer to peer.

You configure the Network on both computers in the same way and then you choose the printer on the computer that it is connected to to be shared as Network printer.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.

Link to: Windows Network - Installing & Sharing.

Both computers should have SP2 for security purposes, update the old one ASAP...

Make sure you've got File and Print sharing enabled on both machines, and that they're set up to be part of the same workgroup, and that File and Print sharing is allowed as an exception in Windows Firewall (if it's on).

Windows is rather retarded about finding shares on other computers in my experience though... on the machine that can't "see" the other, type \\computername\ into the address bar and hit enter, see if it comes up anyway. (If you're not sure on the computer name, head to your System control panel and hit the Computer Name tab. It should say "full computer name: computername.". Type this in (without the period) between that set of slashes and it ought to connect and show any available shares.)
