I need help. Is anyone good at home networking? I have had many problems and i have tried all sorts of ways to setup my network.
Here is the issue - I have 2 rooms - Office and Bedroom.
-In the bedroom is a Cable connection and a D-link Wireless router. hooked up to that router is a PS2 and an Xbox.
-In the office are 2 Apple computers without wireless, 1 PC with a wireless Nic and an onboard nic.
-Also 1 Laptop connected via wireless.

Windows will not let me setup internet connection sharing while having everything set to default DHCP. It tells me the address needed for dhcp is in use. Windows also will NOT let me bridge the connection. I changed the IP for the LAN and it STILL Tells me the address is in use when it is not

I am attempting to connect one of the macs to the PC (via wired crossover) and use Internet COnnection sharing to connect it to the web. Is this possible? DOES THE ICS HOST NEED TO HAVE A DIRECT CONNECTION??? IT seems like it would be simple.

I have tried assigning some computers static IP's and it sitll didnt work. Does anyone have a setup similar to this or have any suggestions?

I'm thinking about getting one of those ethernet over powerline devices so I can remove most of my wireless hosts. You plug something into an outlet near your router in the bedroom and the other in the office. You should be able to hook the one in the office to a switch and connect all of the machines to that switch. The 85mbit one is expensive at Best Buy ($179 here), but the 14mbit ones should be cheaper.

I think, with ICS (it's been YEARS since the last time I heard about it) the NIC connecting to the Macs should be on a different subnet than the one connecting to the wireless router. Even then you'd be doing double NAT.

As far as bridging goes, I'm not sure about Windows but with most unix-like systems the bridging interfaces do not have IP addresses.

Apples PCs, ICS, Bridging Laptop? Nah it would Not work.

Get a switch, or an inexpensive Wireless Router, and a Game Box Wireless Module.

Plug the Wireless Driverless Module to the second Router (Switch) and conncet it Wirelessly to the main Router.

The whole thing should cost about $80.

ok, so get an additional router / switch and plug the game module into that swithes WAN Port? That sound like it should work. In all reality the thing that keeps the router in the bedroom is the PS2, i could just use the game module on the PS2 and move the router to the other room. Thank for the help
