Home Network Wiring Question

Hi all, I'm having trouble getting an internet connection to the devices in my livingroom.

I moved into a new apartment that has walled wired network ports in each room that's connected to a patch panel in my storage closet. My internet connection comes in through my office room's cable coax connection. This connects to my wireless router. I'm trying to get my internet connection from here to my living room through the walled wired network ports. So when I connect my wireless router to the wall port and then patch that connection to the wall connection for my living room, I don't get a connection. Do patch panels act like switches?

What am I doing wrong? I assume the house is properly wired.

Please help! Any comments are appreciated.

No, patch panels do not act as switches. They are "dumb" devices. Though if the two ports on the panel are connected via patch cable, theoretically it should work. Are you sure you have the correct ports connected to each other? Are the wall jacks or patch panel ports labeled in any way?

Thanks for the response! I think the biggest issue is that none of the wall jacks or patch panels are labeled. However, I've tried every single port with no luck. I should be using straight through and not crossover cables when I connect at the patch panel, right?

Ahh! I figured out what was the problem. When I was testing all the ports, I missed one. The ports work now. Thanks for your help!
