home network, wifi only allows 16Mbps while ethernet allows full 25Mbps downloads

I have 25Mbps FIOS and when I"m connected via Wifi, I only get a max of 16Mbps download speeds while with ethernet I can max out the 25Mbps. I recall a few times the wireless will max out at 25Mbps but I'm not sure if I changed something along the way (I doubt it) but now it's only downloading at 16Mbps max. Is there a setting to check that my wifi is connected at full speed?

That's about all you will get from a 54mbs 802.11G link.

If you want faster you need an "N" network.

Since there is no tech. specs in your post I can only make a general statement.

Unfortunately WIFI hardware specs are just as real as Fortune Tellers are.

Many 802.11g, and some 802.11n provide 16 to 20 Mb/sec.

Don't forget, your actual throughput on a wifi link is about HALF (or less) your connection rate speed. So if you are connecting at 25Mbit/sec with 802.11g, then your actual download speeds will be less.

I use single-channel 2.4Ghz 802.11N, my connect rate varies, but is generally 105-130Mbit/sec, and I have enough bandwidth not to restrict my 30/25 FIOS connection. (At least on the downstream. My upstream is limited slightly, to around 18Mbit/sec. But I think that is a DD-WRT anomaly.)
