My home network is a bit of a mess with a bunch of switches and wireless access points. A couple of nights ago the whole thing suddenly stopped working with all of the computers unable to get an ip from the router. After restarting a few times and even switching out the router it was still not working. I started to unplug lines directly connected to the router and it suddenly started working again and would stop working when I plugged it back in. I tracked down what was on that line and found that it seemed like one of the access points was causing the problem. Fast forward the next day and the problem starts to intermittently return even with that AP still unplugged.
Is it possible that a bad switch or AP would take down the rest of the network before it? Any method to test them?
