Home network transfer rates

Is it possible to increase network file transfer rates?
- My win xpsp2 system normally downloads files between 400 to 600 KB/sec
- My win 2k system can do at best 200 kb/sec
- same isp through the same router

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

- the rates are internet download sppeds from a fast site i.e. Microsoft

Different CPU Speeds, quantity of RAM, NICS, wiring, length of wiring, etc... All have an effect on speed. Also, there are some registery tweaks you may try, look through the sites already mentioned ^.
