nope still getting the same thing

i went to network places and clicked "view workgroup computers" on the left and got this error

(workgroup name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this netowrk resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions

the list of servers for this work group is not currently available

What kind of network setup do you have? Workgroup? Domain? Single-subnet? Multi-subnet? I'm assuming the simplest case (single-subnet workgroup) below...

Can you log into another computer by name in NN? i.e. try \\putername

If that works, then your name resolution is OK, but your browse lists are broken. They may just need some time to get together - the browsing process is very far from robust. Leave the machines alone for 30 minutes and see if anything improves.

If it doesn't work, then your name resolution is messed up. In a small workgroup setting, that pretty much means that your IP settings are wrong. Check your subnet masks and make sure they match. Or maybe your trying some funny stuff with protocols. Stick with the basic NetBIOS over TCP/IP for this - multiple protocols make a mess of browsing.

BriGy86,
I can't help you since I have been unable to solve exactly the same problem for myself, but you may like to know what you are experiencing is a common problem that to my knowledge no one has found a solution for. I have a workgroup of three computers and can access shared resources on any one of them by typing \\"computer name" in Run on any of the other two. That proves the router is resolving the name and linking the computers on the LAN. All three have excellent internet access, through the LAN to the router for two of them. However My Network Places on any machine is apt to only show the shared resorces on that machine -- although randomly one or both of the others will appear. And I get the same error box you do that I do not have access etc. if I try to look at the computers in the workgroup. I have created two threads here at different times seeking help -- as well as reading several like yours and mine, and the responses are either to curse MS or to say just use \\"computer name" to get to shared resources on the other computers. I have had similar experience on a couple of other tech sites, so apparently the problem is common and no one knows a solution. I will monitor your thread to see if you elicit any help.

EXACTLY!!!

thanks, but if you go into my network places and click on the left "add a network place" click through that until you get to a place that has a text box and asks for the internet or network address (theres a browse button but that did nothing for me)

then i think you can typ in \\(computer name or IP)\shareddocs (shareddocs is the default i believe) then hit next and it should put those recources in your "my network places"
