I am trying to connect two computers in my home.

Both win me OS
one Has Dlink dfe-530tx 10/1000 Adapter
Another has lne100tx version 1.0 (lunksys old)
using cat 5 connect together (no hub use)

try everything in soft setting, not lucky.

Any one know if those two NICs like each other?
Do I need a hub to set the Fast ethernet?
thx

You will need a crossover cable. With that, you should be able to run 100 baseT full duplex, given that both cards support it.

Personally I'd hardcode each of the machines to an IP, say 192.168.1.10 & 192.168.1.20, with a class C subnet (255.255.255.0). Install NetBEUI for windows file sharing, & you should be good to go.

Also, WinME I believe will tell you "media disconnected" if you run winipcfg without a valid physical connection.

but what's difference with crossover and twist pair fow fast ethernet
winme automatic install tcp/ip -> NIC which will conflict with NetBEUI as I think

A crossover switches the send & receive pins, thus pointing the send pins from one NIC at the receive pins of the other, & vice-versa.

It's still twisted pair, it's just the pinouts are different on the two ends.
