Home network problem

My home is networked in this way:
Cable modem to D-link wireless -N router with 4 gigaports.
I have a long ethernet cable run to the other side of the house.
This cable is connected to another wireless D-link router at the other side of the house. If I connect a computer directly to that cable, I have internet. A computer connected to the router will not connect to the internet.

I suspect an IP conflict but I really don't know what the problem is. I've tried turning everything on and off multiple times. I am using Windows XP pro on my computers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure only one router has DHCP enabled. Connect Router #1 to Router #2 though the lan ports on each router.

Also I've had trouble before if the second router's own IP address falls within the same "range" (not sure what it's officially called) of the first router.

For example: if the 1st D-link is 192.168.1.1, change the 2nd D-link to 192.168.2.1 or somesuch. I had weird intermittent problems that would keep happening until I did this after turning off DHCP on the 2nd router.

I don't have a wireless connection from the second router which I believe has the same name on the network as the primary (Dlink). The primary router shows up as available wireless on my network as DLink. Any ideas?

Make sure that NOTHING is plugged into the WAN (Internet) port on the second router. Use the (four?) LAN ports for ALL connections.

You have disabled DHCP and enabled Wireless and assigned an SSID correct?

It's working now. I changed the SSID on the second router because the default SSID was the same as the first router. Presumably, that was the cause of the problem because everything is working perfectly now. Thanks again.

You can have the same SSID, the wireless client should use whatever is stronger
