Here's the scoop. I'm trying to network 2 PC"s. One's running XP Pro, the other 2000. Both PC's are using Netgear FA310TX NIC's, and I'm using a Netgear EN104 Hub. No matter how much I try, the 2000 PC can't see itself, and the XP PC can't see the 2000 PC, but the XP PC can see itself. Originally, I was just using TCP/IP on both PC's, and both could see themselves, but couldn't see each other in both My Network Places, and in Ping. Both are in the workgroup called "Workgroup" The IP addresses are:

XP PC (Computer name: Voyager): 192.168.1.1
2000 PC (Computer name: EnterpriseC): 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask on both: 255.255.255.0

Now, I came across this link here on the forums, and I have been testing the NetBIOS Settings on the WINS Tab of the Advanced Section of TCP/IP Properties. But, I am totally confused about which setting is it supposed to be on for both PC's. Can someone help me?

Now, I tried IPX/SPX+NetBIOS And in that setup, the EnterpriseC couldn't see itself, but the Voyager can see itself, but still can't see the EnterpriseC. So, I tried NetBEUI as well, and it was the same thing as IPX/SPX+NetBIOS. The Ent-C can't see itself or the Voyager, while the Voyager can see itself, but not the Ent-C. Help! I have a feeling that this is some stupid user error, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If your XP sees itself leave it alone for the time being first make the Win2000 functional.

Start with making sure that the hardware i.e. the NIC is correctly installed (no IRQ or other conflict) reinstall the drivers, and so on.

Since you are using WinXP pro on the other side start with both computers using and sharing TCP/IP, Win XP Pro does not take kindly to other protocol.

Thanks. IIt's becoming clear to me that this is a hardware problem because I noticed that while the XP PC has sent out 1000+ packets, the 2000 PC hasn't sent out one. Thanks for your time. I might be back though;)
