I have two computers hooked to a LinkSys "EtherFast cable/dsl router..model BEFSR41"
Both computers are running XP...We want to play Soldier of Fortune 2 on the same servers but we can't both log in with the same IP addy...I am told there is a way to change one of the computers addy so we can..LinkSys was not much help on the subject.
Please help! We use Comcast and they don't know anything from what I can tell..
I know there is a simple answer...I just can't find it!

Thanks in advance!

Do you have only 1 IP addy from comcast? Unless things have changed you may need to buy another one for a few bucks a month. There's no way to get around the 1 IP address connecting you online unless you use an impractical proxy or something. (unless things have changed in the last year or two in which case ignore this post 🙂)

You don't need 2 seperate IPs to both play on the same server - that shouldn't be a problem with ANY game.

The only conceivable reason I can see you having a problem is if you're both trying to use the same CD key, and changing your IP won't help. The server will probably still reject you.

I believe it was an issue with WW2 online or something similar. Maybe it's something more game specific?

Wasn't SOF using an id software engine? Quake 2 perhaps? If so, yea there's an issue with two people connecting to the same server with the same IP on the same port I forget the exact syntax but what you'll want to do is change the port from the command line as you are starting up. Modify the shortcut on one copy to have this at the end:

+set port 27999

(or some other random number)

Once you've changed one copy both should work fine.

if it's anything like Half Life, we use to do
-port #####

I've never had a problem with ANY quake engine game playing from the same IP. We have mini-LAN parties at my house all the time and play SOF2, Quake3, HL and others online together.
