Hi all!!
I've just built myself a home network with the following configuration:
AT&T Cable modem feeding:
Firewall: Athlon 700, 256mb PC100, ASUS K7M w/VIA chipset, two Intel Ethernet Pro 100's, running Linux
Machine1: XP1600+, 512mb PC2100, Epox 8KHA w/VIA chipset, 3Com 905c series 10/100, running Win2K Pro
Machine2: Dell PowerEdge 1300 w/ dual P3-500's, 512mb, Asante Fast PC10/100, running Win2K SERVER
Before building the network, "machine 1" was the only box in the house, and it "suffered" with bandwidth speeds around 40 kilobytes per second. Since buildng this network, however, "machine 2", which is running Win2K SERVER, is getting bandwidth speeds around 230 kilobytes per second!! "Machine 1" still gets it's paltry 40kbps. FWIW, my bandwidth is no better on the Win2K Pro machine when I swap in the Asante Fast NIC.
