Home network and Samsung tablet

I have a small home network using a Asus rtn66u router, a laptop and desktop both running win 7 64 bit.
My grandkids each have a Samsung Galaxy tab 2. They can access the wifi in my house and all is well with that.
What I want to do if possible is set up the tablets to work on my network. I assume this is possible and need a general idea of what to do. My thoughts are that the tablets are just like any other wireless unit like a laptop, etc. and that I need to set up file sharing, and other things.
It's been several years since I have set up any networking and need some general help.
Thanks

File sharing on Android isn't the like on Windows. You can use various file manager apps on the tablets to access the network pretty easily, but it's still clunky, and other apps can't access these files.
