Is there a way to burn movies onto a cd so they can be played in a standalone DVD player for a tv? What format would it be in?

well there are dvd writers which you can burn movies on dvd-r discs and will play in dvd players. as long as you have a dvd player that supports it, you can play movies on cd's that are in mpeg, and mpeg2 format.

are there any converters for Quicktime to MPEG? I want to put the BMW Films on a cd so I can watch them on my DVD player.

I recommend burning some VCDs. Its the format they have in Asia instead of VHS. They can be played in most DVD players too. They need to be in an AVI format and have specific audio settings too. Try downloading the program AVI to VCD, I think it changes an AVI file to meet the requirements of a VCD then you can burn them. There are more detailed instructions somewhere, but I'm just saying what I remembered off of The Screen Savers. Hope it helps.

I'm pretty sure vcd's are mpeg, and not avi. If the clips you want to turn into vcd's are mpegs already, then just get nero 5.0 or higher. With nero, you can burn mpegs as vcds. If they're not mpegs, get a converter proggy, and then burn it w/ nero.
