Home Internet Connection Help

I'm moving back home to go to school next semester, and would like to take advantage of their cable internet service there. The trouble is, I think that they have only one IP address that they're paying for, and they already have their own computer hooked up to it. I know I could just unplug their ethernet cable and plug mine in in order to use the service. However, is there any way to get simultaneous internet service on both computers? I know I could just buy a router, but I'm not sure if spending $130 for 6 months of use is practical. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I can access the internet from both computers at the same time then? I mean, it doesn't close one's connection to give access to the other, does it?
