I'm building a new core i7 system after my p4 finally died after 5 years. I game a little, but I mostly use it for productivity, 3d programs at home etc. (I'm an architect). Despite the heavy machinery I typically run everything at stock, and my biggest concern is reliability. My new system will be
Asus p6t
Core i7 920
3GB 1333 Corsair memory
Windows XP Prof(holding off for windows 7 64bit - will upgrade memory at that point)
EVGA NVIDIA 260
Corsair TX750
300 GB SATA WD-Velociraptor(system drive)
1 TB SATA WD Black (File drive)
Old Samsung DVD-R
Old IDE 150 GB Maxtor Hard Drive
Old Media Card Reader
I have an Alum AMS G-Tower 1006 that I've been using, and I still like the aesthetics and size of it. I have considered building the new system in it, but I'm worried about cooling, and expansion, also it's a little louder than I would prefer.
Cooling -I have one 80mm intake fan and one 120mm exhaust at the back. I was going to replace the fans, but currently my computer doesn't seem to have adequate intake. I've heard you can add a 120mm fan to the front of this case - in place of the 80mm. I have all the tools to mod (drills, dremel, jigsaw, etc.), but I haven't ever tried it, and I don't want to mess it up.
Expansion -It looks like my 260 will fit in the case, but I will loose one or two HD bays (I only have 4) which would eliminate further expansion.
So finally my question is, should I stick with this case and maybe mod it, or should I look for a new home for the system. I like the Cosmos, but I would have to change up some things to accomodate its size. I like the p182, but I hate the plastic door. I don't like lights etc. I like lian-li's but I want to make sure that the function of anything I get would justify an upgrade and increase the longevity of my system.
Thanks for any feedback.
