I was looking at keeping track of my home finances on my home pc but was not sure which software to try. I have read about Quicken Deluxe 2011 online but unfortunately there is no trial version to download first before I commit to buying. I would prefer not to use online only software if possible.

Can anyone recommend any decent programs that will also allow me to try it out first?

AFAIK all of the actual Quicken products are installed locally unless they changed that in the 2011 version. A quick google found this site with links to trial versions of Quicken 2008: http://www.reallifepurpose.com/heres-all-the-quicken-2008-trial-version-download-links/

That should give you a decent feel for it. Basic layout/functionality of the software hasn't really changed in 5+ years. I've been using it for a while basically as a glorified checkbook. It's nice to be able to automatically download transactions and balance your accounts, plus it has some nice features for tracking your spending.

This is not a windows app but a web app instead.

I recently switched from Quicken 2010 to "Yodlee", similar to Mint...and it is free.

I have found it rich enough for my needs.

May be worth a try...

Good luck.

I've used Quicken since it was only available on floppy, IIRC. Like 1994? Love it, love how it sorts by category for everything.
