How does a computer DVD playback compare to some of the high-end DVD players?

I thought about assembling an nForce computer for the living room. Pop in a Duron, perhaps a DVD decoder card, and connect it to a 51" Sony Rear Projection widescreen TV (I got my eyes on this bad boy). Some gaming capabilities would be nice too. I also think that it'd be great to attach a 802.11b card and play MP3 files and some video clips sitting on my server.

Questions:
1) Is it possible to connect 15-pin D-sub VGA to HDTV (1080i)?
2) Any different video card other than the integrated one you recommend for such setup?
3) How is the nForce MCP audio for such setup?
4) How does the quality of DVD playback compare to some of the cheap and expensive DVD players?

if you're going to get that kind of tv, spend some dough on a progressive scan dvd player. computers are horrible places for making analog signals, and the number and types of outputs is sevely lacking, even on a decoder card.

So I guess I should get both a DVD player and build a computer? :)

It'd be nice to play games on such a big screen.
