Home Edition Key

Friend of mine bought a dell comp, and he has the cd key for the home edition. He has no cd. I have the cds for xp pro. Can I just use the home edition cd key?

It won't work. Get the correct CD. Dell will likely give or sell your friend a CD for a reasonable price. With the proper Dell CD, no Key should even be necessary to do the install, since the CD is BIOS-locked and doesn't require activation when installed on a Dell PC. At least that's how it's been in the recent past.

First you will need a Dell Win XP Home disk. Calling Dell to get one and being nice may get you a freebie, or just pay for shipping.

You can re-install the O/S now and you're off to the races. As RM said is true. Have a nice day.
