Off topic, I know, but I'd appreciate any recommendations (negative or positive) concerning the cataloging software put out by subject company. It looks like it is exactly what I need, but hate to install a big program that may end up doing bad things to my computer. Thanks for any advice from former or current users.

why do you need specialized software?
use excel or if you don't have MS office, try star office
it's free and compatiable with MS office

i did this years ago on my mac with claris works

also if you want to catalog your dvds try www.dvdaficionado.com/
its free and web based

ps. i dont think this is off topic here, but the software forum might be better for responses

johngute, thanks for the response, especially for reminding me the site has a software forum. It's been a long time since I was at the homepage. I'm going to change the page in my favorites to go there, it's just one more click. I have been messing around with Excel for a long time trying to figure out how to catalog a large number of vinyl, CD's and tapes, but never found the way. Never got into word processing, had a secretary before I retired. If she were alive, I'd ask her for help. She kept me straight for many years.
