I am working on configuring a system and have put a lot of effort into it and I think I am nearing the final stage before building, and I want to check to make sure this looks good. I am trying to keep the price as low as possible while making it a great computer. I do not need the graphics really, which is why I am not going SLI but I can always do that later. I really like this mobo though. Please feel free to voice your opinion, every bit helps.

Case: Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower Tsunami $102

Power Supply: Antec 480W Power Supply $88

Mobo + Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ w/ Asus-A8N-SLI Deluxe $465

Memory: Mushkin Dual Pack 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 $114

Hard Drive: Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB SATA 16mb Buffer $199

Optical Drive: NEC 16X Double Layer Drive w/ Software OEM $66

Optical Drive: Sony 52x32x52 CD-R $24

Soundcard: Creative labs Audigy 2 ZS $93

Video Card: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://
<b"><b"><b">
Keyboard: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://$32&amp;lt;/">

Speakers: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://$279</">

Mouse: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://$36[/b]

Thermal Paste: [L=BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC]http://www.bfgtech.com/6800GT_PCIX.html[/L &amp;amp;amp;lt;">$400[/B</a> [B</a> [B</a> [B</a> $8

Final Price: $1,786.43 (Includes Shipping and Tax)

If I go with the MSI nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 128MB Video Cardmy total price goes down to $1592.68.

unless you are going to OC, you dont need low-latency ram

get some valueram and use the money you save towards a 6800/6800GT

also, do you really need 620GB? If you think RAID-0 will vastly boost performance in a desktop machine, you're wrong . . .

Also, a lot of your links and prices are wrong . . .

OMG! What do you plan to do with this super-rig? From the looks of it you better be doing CAD, some sort of video editing or some hard-core gaming. You could easily build a system that is 80% of this system's performance for alot less. What about monitors? Dual 21" LCDs?

what actually are you going to do with this comp?

and what monitor(s) are you using?

Haven't decided on monitor, most likely Dell 2005FPW. The reason for the extra 300gb HD is because i want to keep my pictures and such safe from being lost.

Yeah I saw the deal that I missed out on, saw it in the deal section. I Don't really have a reason for the raid. What would you suggest I do?

IMHO and IME, if you don't really have a reason for RAID 0, it's best to steer clear of it. Data loss is a nasty thing.

I'd lower the PSU to 380 or 430W, you'll still have PLENTY of power in reserve.

To echo what others have said, what's this rig going to be used for? I can't really offer more specific recommendations without knowing what apps you plan to run on it..

I do not plan on doing anything special or out of the ordinary. I like my music and running average stuff. I want something that will last me a while and can be upgraded later without upgrading my entire system.

I put in a 380 PSU instead of the 480, that took off $28.

So should I knock off the two Barracuda's and stick with my Maxtor?

oh, i was just thinking . . .

if you want to make "backups" *AHEM* of DVDs, you can get a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo for $30 . . .

if i were you  i would wait until the new mobo from ati with sli comes, and then you should buy x800xt (or maybe two if you can afford it), because ati has a better picture.
you shouldn't buy those slow hd's you should much rather buy the new raptor 10.000 rpm hd's from WD, they are a lot more expensive, but you will have the fastest hd's rigth now. Buy 2,3 or 4 72.2 gb hd's and set them to raid, then you will have at least 200-250 gb, and that should be enough.

a $2000 rig with only a 6600GT. wtf?

get a gig of value RAM and use the saved cash to get a 6800GT. we all know that 6600GT's in SLI are not as fast as 1 6800GT.

year of course it's expensive, but you'll get a great deal more for the money!? that's just my opinion, and in the long run it's his money and he who shall decide what he's going to buy..

The Maxtor drive I have above is almost as fast as the Raptor with its 16MB Buffer and NCQ technology. Plus it has a lot more sotrage.

I have a question on the Video Card. How much of a noticable difference will there be if I do not game. Or do you think I should go for it incase I go back into gaming later?

IMO I wouln't SLI 2 6600GT It's better to use 1 6800 GT you'll get better performance from the 1 6800GT.
If you don't game, you shouldn't even consider the SLI mother board. Better to get a standard Socket 939 motherboard with only 1 video slot.
SLI is really for hard core gamming fans.
