I know there ar epeopl ehere that run their own PC Repair type businesses as a home/side business. I'm wondering what everyone uses for a Contract so you don't get ripped off by people not wanting to pay for the work.

If anyone has a contract they use that doesn't mind sharing it, send me a PM. I'm starting to launch my company and one of the things I hope to do a lot of is going to people's homes and helping them setup their network. So I'd like to have some sort of contract to give them and have them sign that will cover my ass from deadbeats.

If anyone has something they'd share that I could look at or even just sue a modify the names and such, let me know.

Thanks.

You don't give them their computer back until they pay?

edit: actually read second paragraph.

Write up a contract of your own. Most people don't think that it's legally binding unless they have protection against all sorts of loopholes and junk... that kind of thing doesn't fly for small potatoes business in small claim court.

Include the following:
-Client agrees to pay price of ____ (space to write in amount, which has been quoted on paper before work is done.)
-Payment is due upon completion of work, or at a time not to exceed 2 weeks with an extra $10 charge.
-Should client not pay in the afformentioned time, charges will be brought to a small claims court or a collections agency, as you seem fit. Client is responsible for all charges incurred in this process, including but not limited to service fees, court costs, filing charges and recovery charges.
-Client must verify that equipment is in working order before you leave (be sure to allow them this time) and that you are not responsible for anything non-working after you walk out the door unless you deem it to be a problem your work directly caused (this will prevent them from thinking that you are there 24/7 free tech support once you leave.)
-You reserve the right to cease operations immediately, return the status of the client's equipment to previous state and refund their money at any time. (If you find a problem you can't or don't want to take care of, you can use this statement in your defense. This helps if someone is having problems and it is later determined that their equipment is unservicable due to defects or customer stupidity.)

Yeah but if you are at someone's house and you do the work, you don't have anything to keep....

Exactly. I usually do my work offsite as it ends up being faster and you are in an environment that you can work the easiest in without people asking you dumb questions.

I do do some of my work onsite and I have never had a problem with someone not paying.
