"board of directors has authorized a dividend. your dividend check is attached."

Included is a check for 110 bucks. Not bad.

I guess all the years of taking my money and they give me a cracker makes them feel better.

Hopefully they don't ask for it back.

3 months ago we got a check back from our insurance company for about $300. They said we overpaid our homeowners insurance. We called them up asked them why received this, and told them that we shouldn't be getting it. They swore up and down that it was correct.

Just a few days ago we get a letter from them...

"We calculated your premiums wrong and charged you a lot less that you should be. We need that $300 back.
Have a nice day!"

Dumbasses.

Got one from State Farm about a month ago. If I'm not mistaken they send you one for each vehicle you have insured with them. They owe me 3 more.

I get them every now and then from State Farm, too. It's typically only about 30 bucks or so though.

Probably a way for them to cook the books. They use the money as an interest free loan and write it off at the end of the year.

Damn, when I was with State Farm they never gave me anything!

Congrats. Usually it's the other way around.

If this is the case, I'd be banking any checks I get from them and earning intrest on it until they ask for it back... make a few bucks (literally :( ) for my time.

Exactly. Are none of you (other than upsciLLion) familiar with the concept of a mutual company?? A mutual company is a company where the profits are shared with the policy holders, prorated based on the amount of business the policy holder does with the company. So, if the company makes a profit, as a policy holder you get a little piece of that profit.
