@Home Cable constant disconnects help

I'm using cable modem in Redwood Shores, CA and I have the linksys 4-port hub/router keeping me online but if I'm online with AIM, I constantly keep getting disconnected. I basically get disconnected for 1 second and automatically reconnect... Anyone know how to help?

If you find anything out with this please let me know cause I'm having the exact same problem with a fresh @home install.

I've been having a similar problem with ICQ. It eventually went away but seemed to kill the connectivity of the other computers I had on the services. I think @home just sucks 🙁

I'm connected straight into the modem too, no proxy on that machine, and it dumps, icq, aim and yahoo messanger at the same time for a few seconds at a time over and over again.

Yeah it took me forever to get past the level one techs, then to the level 2, put me on hold about 10 times, was on hold at one point then I got disconnected after about 20 mins of waiting and they never called me back, so no not yet I haven't gotten anything from them.

Ok tried yet again tonight, now this isn't 100% sure fix but I've been fine for about 1/2 hr now so I thought it was worth posting, when we were looking through my network properties we got to network identification. And I had my pc named Daniel from my home network, well we changed it to ot038403984 or whatever the name they give you is and it has been ok since. They said in 98 you can't even get online without the right computer name so maybe that was causing my problems, I'm crossing my fingers though.

Let me know if that works for sure... Is that the computer name for all computers connected to @home or is it computer specific? Also, do you know what I should do if I'm using the linksys 4-port router/hub?

Well I use that pc as a proxy so it was the computer name, it has been fine all night, as for the linksys I'm not sure if you can name that or not cause I don't have one.

I had been using different names for my home pc's but I'll try changing it back to the names they gave and report back.

I have the 4 port one too. I gave the name (@Home's assigned name like C984543-D) to the router and named my pc's whatever I wanted. No problems, but @home still blows..

Ok now I'm sorry to report that after working well for one night it is doing the same thing again all last night, kicked me off icq, irc, and aim all at the same time repeatedly, so apparently it's not as good as a fix as I once thought.

click here : WWW

then, in the top right there is a link that says member section. click there, log on, and then click on the member services link again and there is a section in there that shows you what your ip-address(es) are.

I have to agree with ElDiablo in checking out your IP. @home actually gave me the wrong IP when they first installed it (they use statics in Chicago but I don't if that's for all their customers) but for some reason it worked for the first few days I had it. After I got the correct IP all was fine. On the Linksys end I have had no problems with AIM or ICQ except that you have to set your DMZ to the internal IP of the machine that you are using the chat client on to override the built in firewall if you want to transfer files in either of these programs. I don't think that the DMZ would have anything to do with the essential connection to chat .. but it's a longshot thought. Cheers

That is actually the correct link chunkyman. just type www into your browser. that is setup as a default pathway to home.excite.com i think.

BTW, still no luck with the disconnects. 🙁
