A few months ago, their was an article simular to this one on Slashdot. This guy purchased a "dry pair" phone line (a line with no dial tone) from the local phone company, pretending that he needed it to install an alarm system. He then connected some slightly modified DSL modems that he bought off of eBay, and used his newly formed "DSL Line" to leech off of his employers T1.

Needless to say, once the phone company found out, they made it a LOT more difficult to purchase "dry pair" phone lines :)

lol. Just wait a few months you'll hear of a barn being robbed or set fire to and all the equipment that these people paid lots of cash to get DSL in their area will be magically gone.

My favorite part:

'Then, he walked the ten minutes from his home over to the horse barn to peer at the blinking green lights on the DSLAM."

I don't know how good an idea it is to steal from the people in Ruby Ridge, Colorado.

How can you do do that? First of all, you'll NEED access to the colo. Then you need the key to get inside the cages. Then you gotta find out which pair you are on, and there are thousands to tens of thousands of wires! Then you gotta run the cross connects.
