Hey everyone,

I am about to move into my new house and me and my dad have already started talking about setting up a new home audio system in the family room. Nothing to fancy, just want to build a central panel that everything runs to, and a 5.1 surround sound in-wall,in-ceiling system. Where is a good place to buy audio components such as the in-wall speakers and the in-ceiling speakers? Also need some outdoor speakers as well that will run off the same panel to the outside. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Find a local shop like Tweeters, Star Power, etc... They usually sell better equipment than best buy and also can help you build a nice system. They also do custom installations. Yellowpages is the best place. Please stay away from cheap box sets and places like Walmart. You get what youpay for.

I dont want something that cheap, we are doing it ourself, my dad is a master electrician so no worries on people doing it. More just trying to find a place to buy the components themselves.

Surround sound is a silly gimmick. Sound as it occurs in gets it dimensional nature from environmental reverberation, and natural sounding hi-fi is more easily achieved via equipment of simpler design but higher quality materials.

see Frank Van Alstine's components at www.avahifi.com.

This thread makes me laugh.

My quick suggestion to you: check out a local hifi boutique if any still exist around you...you might also have a place that specializes in custom home distribution. They'll be happy to sell you the components, but you can also just get an idea of what you need. Places like partsexpress will have a lot of the panels, wiring and components that you need, but for higher end speakers and components, I'd check out a B&M first.

running out to grab a pizza, good luck :)

Guess I am confused as to why this makes you laugh? Just curious if anyone has done anything like this before. i am not going for a home theater, just a clean surround sound system.

Call up a Best Buy in the area, if they have that new Magnolia section, then go there. They can probably sell you what you want.

If you want a forum that is more audio oriented, check out AVSforum and Hometheaterforum.

By not going for a hometheater, do you mean this is just a music system?

speaker craft AIM8Three for center, AIM8Two for L+R, CRS One for rears. Definitive Technolgies Supercube II for sub. They also have klipsch reference outdoor speakers and can order the speakercraft ROX.

While I don't have any experience with this service personally, the fact that its Best Buy just seems to make it not a good idea to me personally based on Geek Squad and general Best Buy service.

I think he means they're not aiming for something like you have (full on projector, separates, and dual SVS subs for instance). They want a simple setup that gives them 5.1 sound (movies, games, and possibly TV and music).

Since they're aiming for an in-wall setup and know how to get it wired up properly they just want to know what components and where to get them for the best price/value.

Oh, OP, what's your budget? That will help quite a bit.
