DETAILED DESCRIPTION - See second post for quick reference

Can it post if the processor is dead? This box isn't POSTing - I'm not getting any video out or any beep codes. (onboard video, have tried a 32mb PCI Video card too, nothing)

It's an E-machines, and for some reason, even with the power switch unplugged, it automatically turns on when I plug in the power supply.

I've tried booting with no RAM, one stick of RAM, unplugging all peripherals, new power supply, new RAM, unplugging all drives, and it seems to either be a CPU or Mobo problem, I'm leaning towards Mobo.

Also The power indicator LED does not come on when the system powers on even though it is connected to the motherboard correctly. (meaning when I give it power, the CPU and PSU fans power up, and I can hear the HDD spin up)

edit - Also: The HDD Activity light STAYS ON SOLID after I give the machine power, if the IDE cables are (obviously) connected.

Everything has been checked and double checked to be seating and connected properly.

Rough system specs:
SYSTEM - E-machines T4080
CPU - 2.4ghz P4
RAM - 512mb original PC2100 - Purchased an upgrade of 1GB PC2100 (have tried with both , each stick individually, and none)
HDD - 80GB
OS - WinXP Home

Symptons:
- No video, CPU and PSU fans coming on, HDD spins up if not connected to motherboard.
- HDD light stays solid, not flashing. Power LED does not come on
- System automatically powers on when given power, even with power switch disconected

Things I have eliminated:
- Video (video is onboard, tried a PCI video card, no luck)
- Ram ( have a 512 stick and a 1gb stick, they dont help seperately or together)
- PSU (new PSU from NewEgg)
- HDD (disconnected, same problem, although this does eliminate the HDD activity light staying on :p )

Things I think it could be
- CPU
- Mobo

After replacing the motherbaord and power supply, and formatting the corupted hard drive, all is well.
