-had a spyware problem on my fileserver.
-ran spybot/adaware/ms antispy/etc, didn't do much.
-tried cleaning method that included running cleanup!(http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/icannews...look2me_infection_log_incl-t43155.html and serveral other forums recommended this method or similar)
-i start running cleanup! with recommended settings
-it finishes... 203gb freed up. OMFG 203GB DELETED:Q:frown::brokenheart:
-think to myself, i have two options right now. 1. seppuku 2. break out backup 200gb drive and try to recover everything. 3. hang myself
-after long deliberation, i'm trying #2 first. if it fails. good bye world.

omg, 200+gb of morning musume/hello project files. ALMOST EVERY FRICKEN EPISODE OF HELLO MORNING + tons of tv appearances and performances. @#$!#$%$#@(%$) GAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

What kind of software doesn't ask for confirmation before it deletes files on a system?

Okay I really hope you haven't touched your harddrive and written anything on it since. If you haven't, get another boot drive and put the 200gb drive in slave. Then using a file recovery program, you can *hopefully* recover it. Of course I have no idea what this cleanup program did, if it was really thorough and overwrote all memory locations multiple times, wiping with zeros, then ones, etc (DoD-type method) then you're screwed. If it was just a simple delete, then you got some hope. Great file recovery tool that I used before was PC Inspecter file recovery

my hands are shaking and i can barely breath right now as i'm installing this fresh 200gb drive.

1. backup. get a free solution like syncback

2. undelete! STAT! l

last night, i had a similar problem. when mozilla firefox reinstalled itself for the 6 or 7 times i've had to upgrade, it screwed up the settings for one of my extensions and i backed up the wrong directory :| a lot of REALLY important files were lost. i recovered some, but not all... and i can't get them to work with the extension anymore 🙁
