i was just standing in my backyard talking on the phone (its a nice night out, and i was just enjoying it), and something flew out of the tree next to me. It had a wingspan of 3-4 feet, and flew away from me (thank god). i dont know what the hell it was. I think it must have been an owl, but didnt know we had them around here. Im in a decent sized city, and surrounded by other residences- not country land around.... think it was an owl, or what the hell did i see?

It was the Mothman. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. 😀

Anyway, it could have been a hawk. They are occassionally in city areas.

Maybe a bat?

that was the first thing i thought too, but way too big. im thinkin it had to be some kind of owl

Bat has a much longer wingspan than an owl does. I caught one that flew in my house one time.

I vote owl. Those things can have a helluva wingspan. And you'd be surpised what all wildlife lives in the city. Owls, bats, deer, snakes, fox, raccoon etc etc

WTF are you talking about?

There is only one species of bat where we live, little brown bat.

Its wing span is barely 1 foot.

An owl is a fairly big bird with a 2 foot wingspan minimum.
