How is that not illegal?

It's not a Wii clone per say. It's really a 16-bit console with a motion control gimmick. They just used a case similar name and design but changed it just enough to get by. Plus it's China.

Shan zhai is what I believe they call it in China. Countries like China have huge problems with copywrite enforcement, hence why many businesses are skeptical about entering business there.

IIRC Cisco had huge problems with piracy of their products when they entered the Chinese market and the Chinese government did nothing to help them they had to sue companies in US courts.

It's more the China part then the 'just enough to get by' part. There's still design patents that they're infringing on, but there's no reason for Nintendo to spend money trying to collect damages that they know they'll never get even if the law says they should.
