I havent been to the dentist in a bit so I just called my gf's dentist and they said a cleaning is $210.

After I become a patient they will give me a $21 discount. Is this high?

My dentist charges $65 for a cleaning, + some extra smaller fees if you want some special treatment. Bright Now dental.

I would say that's very, very high for a simple cleaning. Are you sure they weren't including X-rays as part of the price? Since you would be a new patient I would imagine they would want X-rays.

Anyone who has a group Dental plan through their employer and pays even a single dollar for a cleaning, has relatively shitty Dental insurance.

Indeed. Considering it's the only medical service that the almost every person expects to do every year.

I don't think I've ever had to pay for a cleaning in my life, always had insurance. I wouldn't have a clue how much a dentist should/can charge.

Just checked my insurance records. Although my insurance covers it in full, my dentist charges $70 for a cleaning and brief exam.

I think my dentist charges $110 if I pay with cash. I don't have dental insurance (I work in a small company and take great care of my teeth, so it seems like a waste of money to me).

Ask them to break that charge down for you, and post what they say here.

It sounds like you are being seen as a New Patient. New Patient exams are higher priced, and also you'll be having all the New Patient xrays.

You can get the price down some if you ask to have just Bitewings xrays this time because you can't afford more. Do this when you are in the chair.

If they are going to charge you $189 for the next cleaning ask them to break that down for you too. It seems a bit high, but then again you are in B'more, right?

That's why I got an electric toothbrush and only go to the dentist once every 2 years or so. Every time I go they give me crap about how I need to come once every 3 months or some BS. Just STFU and clean my teeth. They always try to get a new x-ray. No thanks.

you might have periodontal disease, but then you're saving a lot of money by not going to the dentist until.... your teeth fall out.

i like these people who think they know more than the professionals, because you know we are lying to you just so we can make money off you.

$189 is high. Call around. You can usually get free cleaning from dental hygiene students at your local college that has a dental hygiene program. Just sign up for it.

The newest dental scam is that the 'free' cleaning is not what you need. You need a deep cleaning that insurance doesn't cover.

Oddly the time these two procedures take is roughly the same.
