nice. the PSU still works too?

Interesting that there was that much current draw and the PSU didn't trip and it survived.

i don't know how either. same thing happened to me once but the fire stopped because the PSU fried.

My motherboard caught fire at the store when i was testing a new video card. it turns out the psu was bad and it killed my 2 day old video card...

Wow! Those wire look just like the front USB header wires I see after someone hooks them up incorrectly. 😱

hehe i had a similar experience except my fire was b/c I was a retard and plugged teh floppy cable in backwards.

what caused the fire?

if you read the thread you would know.

And if you read, you would know the PSU still worked

Get off the man's back.

he only said that he was using the computer again. he never said whether he replaced the PSU or not. 😛

Not to beat a dead horse but to me, saying he saved the machine means exactly that, nothing had to be replaced...

"My quick reaction really saved this machine - the wire was burnt about 3/4 the way up to the power supply where it would have surely done some major damage... "

Happened to me before - the power supply connector charred and fused to the motherboard. I had to replace both.

meh, i see it all the time at work, especially the PC's of so called "home technicians" who try to modify their PSU for what ever purposes..and then try to blame the manufacturer when their modified PSU blows up and kills every component in their PC...jeez I like to laugh at them
