Oh really what's the deal? This is the exact same as my diamondpro 2070 AFAIK. Just with a different name.

From what I've seen, the ones made in the last few months were basically all crap. I have a 2070 too, but when I originally bought mine I went through three bad ones (all made in this period), each of which had five or six different problems of its own, before getting one a good one (made earlier that year, in June). This makes sense given all the QC cost cutting on CRTs by both Mitsubishi and Sony in the last few months of their respective production periods.

Although the good one I finally got has been absolutely perfect. :) I don't need to bother with LCDs as long as this thing lasts.

That's one thing many people forget with all the hardcore CRT advocates picking up used 24" widescreens from business sell-offs on ebay: manufacturing costs. CRT's cost a lot to make, especially when you push into 20"+ . Look how quickly LCD's made 20-24" screens affordable!

It's not like you have much of a choice in the matter.. hence the thread.

You probably went from a budget CRT to your budget LCD. Most people buy on price like a commodity and never used a FD or UNX AG an can't even begin to understand how to make the comparision having never used a decent CRT. It costed 3x more than competition so only a minority could afford them. Trust me that NEC blows away that Samsung you are using on every level.

However, even the cheapest LCD is better than 90% of CRTs ever made and most people used those cheap kind so in thier own mind they are giving an accurate assesment of LCD's superiority..

Did that make sense?

Simply

Single Gun AG CRT > S-IPS LCD > VA LCD > Tri Gun AG CRT > TN LCD > Invar shadow mask CRT (which comprised over 90% of CRT market)

Good news for those of us who prefer CRT technology.

The lugging to LAN party argument is ridiculous guys - you can buy and LCD specifically for LAN parties and use it as a 2nd screen or on a spare system at home.

The price is a natural consequence of large CRT's no longer being mass manufactured, unfortunately. Like everything else, monitors are not immume to the laws governing economy of scale.

I purchased a Samsung 940B and was so disapointed with color reproduction and sharpness i RMA'd it back.

Picked up a 21" Sony GDM 5411 new overstock from Accurate IT and couldn't be happier.
Its awesome. And only 389.00 with shipping.

I guess you can say i went back.

Same here. My beloved Eizo T766 died and I got a Samsung 930B. I eBayed the Samsung to get a Viewsonic CRT. Less money and better picture.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Just have an LCD to borrow from another computer in the household when you go to a LAN. Or, if for some reason you don't have multiple computers in your household, then just get a spare LCD. They aren't expensive. 19" LCDs go for as little as $125ish after rebates.

Personally, I still lug my heavy ass CRT to LANs. Yes, it's a pain, but it's better than 90% of the LCDs everyone else is bringing to the party. I see some of the most godawful 15/17" screens there. If I'm going to replace my CRT, it's going to be with a very nice LCD.

$400 is quite a bit. I did pick up a Hitachi CM771 for $25 and it does 1600x1200@75Hz beautifully, perfectly sharp to less than 0.5mm of the screen edge where there is a slight loss of convergence.

I still can't replicate the effect of superbright though even after playing with the monitor and video driver settings, oh well.

Yeah, it's safe to say that bad CRTs are worse than bad LCDs and the vast majority of both types of monitors sold are the crappy, low end kind. Even among the high end CRT models, you really have to get a good sample (not the junk they made towards the end or during a couple of other "bad" periods) to see just how much better they can be than everything else.

lcd's only have two pluses, power useage, and size. other than that, i hate em. input lag and update time, both bring them down in my books. im stickin with lcd's till sed's become mainstream(if they ever) or something better comes along than lcd's.

edit: i bought my syncmaster 997df, and i havent looked back, optimal resolution on this thing, is 1600x1200, i cant find many other crt's that can even compair to it.

Yeah, that was the price I got my 2070SB for in March last year. They were apparently even cheaper at one time, around $550 or so.

You mean sticking with CRTs, right? :D

I don't know what's the story with SEDs these days. Haven't heard anything about them for quite a while. :(

Not entirely accurate. If you're used to a CRT at home you're not going to revert to LCD if you're planning on competition for the LAN. Now if the whole intent is just for fun then I agree 100%, however bothering with the CRT in the first place doesn't make a whole lot of sense IMO.

Wendel does and he's a little twerp. Man up.

Wendel only plays with CRTs. The problems for him are afterglow and the lower frequency of images. The main fault of LCDs is the restriction in frequency and consequently fps.

"The possibility of having a $1.2million dollar contract with the like of Samsung, CMO and LG-Philips particularly interested him. If LCD really offered $1.2mill , yes he will probably change to LCDs."

i bet Fatal1ty is just as good with an LCD screen. reflexs and map knowledge do not go away with the change of a monitor. it takes no more than a day of use to get use to a new monitor.

To be honest, when i switched to LCD my CSS skills never decreased :Q and i'm cal-m (nothing to breg about because CSS is dead, and cal is a joke)

fixed;)

I'm going to cry the day my Samsung 1100P+ goes out. What more could i want than a 21 inch CRT with a .25 mm dot pitch, 120 hz refresh at 1280X1024. I dont mind the 68 pounds, sure its been a bitch going from Florida, to Mississippi, to Maryland, to California with it (military) but it's worth it in my opinion. I have never had a problem with it in the 3 years i've had it and its one of the best CRT's i've ever seen. Not to mention i only paid 280 for it because it was a refurb and the left vga screw doesnt screw all the way in.

That said, when it goes out, i'll switch to LCD.. relunctantly, but i will.

Can CRT's and people who swear by them just go to hell. All i ever hear is, its about the gaming blah blah blah. My friends and I have all switched over and noone has lost any skills because of a LCD monitor. If thats your excuse, maybe you just suck at the games you're playing. And jesus that amount of money for a 70lb piece of trash, come on this isn't 1996.....

i'd like to see your LCD side by side with my 24" widescreen Sony FW900 CRT (which i got for under $300). we'll see which monitor is better in photo editing, gaming, movies, using different resolutions, viewing angles, colors, contrast, etc... not to mention the other random problems LCD's have, such as dead/stuck pixels, backlight bleeding, no ability to display a true black color, etc... i bet you couldn't find an LCD anywhere near that price to match it.

and if the weight bothers you, maybe you need to hit the gym.
