I just blew up one of the infamous Deer Power supplies (from ~3yrs back)...I got a new 250GB SATA HD and I decided that it was time to deprecate my 160GB PATA drive to the HTPC so I could store movies on it. The HTPC is really a POS w/ a duron 1600 and 256 MB ram, nothing looks dead, but damn, will I be pissed if the Power supply killed everything in the box.
Chain of events:
1. So removes HTPC from it's spot under the TV
2. So opens case, installs new HD
3. Satisfied, So hooks peripherals up for a test run...
4. So inserts power cable
5. Fans start to spin up (maybe 1/8th turn, tops...
[/b])
6. Crackling sound (like after a firecracker goes off *Cracklecracklecrackle* -- this is what it sounds like when caps fry), flashing lights from inside PS.
:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked:
7. So frantically pulls power plug.
8. Small cloud of black smoke escapes PS side vents.
9. Cursing ensues.
I guess I have to go back to frys tomorrow for a case/ps. :|
Cliffs: Blackinches 4 Ever. Don't buy cheap PSes.
