Sonic Blue, makers of Replay TV and formerly Diamond Multimedia, announced today that they are filing for bankruptcy. Their stock is down like 71%..

Geez.. I was thinking about investing in them because I thought consumers would finally realize what a Replay TV was. Glad I didn't. Tivo is also losing money. Consumers are stupid. Well maybe not completely - the Segway isn't selling. If only consumers would realize exactly what a Tivo or Replay TV does... People are buying $500 HDTV tuners and $400 DVD players and ignoring the utility of a Tivo or Replay TV. Nuts.

Most people won't spend the money for any fees they want to charge. Does replay have a monthy charge or was it tivo? I never use my VCR and it is probably better if I don't get to watch all the things I want to. Gives me more time to do other things. I am also getting spring fever🙂

Consumers are stupid? The company is stupid. If they knew what consumers wanted they wouldn't be bankrupt right now. It's all about serving the needs of consumers, not consumers serving the needs of companies.

Yes. The public, in general, is stupid. What did the company do that was so wrong? The only thing I know of is the 30-second skip feature. I can't imagine that that endeared any media companies. But I don't think there's been any repercussions with that, in terms of partnerships or lawsuits.

i'm not nutz, i just record entire seasons of tv shows i watch or might possibly watch. a tivo would have to have a insane harddrive to handle that.

Companies are structured to profit from the stupidity of the masses.

Don't believe me?

Have you ever seen a beanie baby?

So the public, which is stupid, is the cause of their bankruptcy? I mean, after all, I didn't buy their products because I didn't need them, so I am at fault for their bankruptcy? Poor management and marketing of their products is to blame, not the public. Any good company would find a way to market/appeal to the "stupid" public, for example, like AOL.

since we're talkin stocks, I sold ATI (Nasdaq: ATYT) a couple days ago at ~$4.60 because of all the uncertainty about the progress of the war and what would happen with the company's earnings report (came out this morning)

well, long story short, earnings were better than expected, it closed the day @ $5.40, and I'm kicking myself :frown:
