Holy Sh*t, a 6800 std with HDTV dongle?

nVidia supposedly has drivers coming out that will fix the broken video processor on the 6800/GT/Ultra cards.

As for HDTV, isn't that just a s-video-component adapter? Can't any card with s-video use that adapter?

all is see is the s-video to compenent/svideo dongle.. would you just use the native dvi port to an hdtv anyway...?

I must have missed it, but where does it say HDTV? All I see is S-Video/Component out, a DVI and DSub.
The descritpion states it has a HDTV output cable.

Yeah, Component is used for HDTV... not anything big anymore, since the majority of HDTVs have DVI/HDMI and it is fairly easy and much better quality than Component.

Err it's not even component out.. it's composite out, which is the old ghetto kind.

that's not a s-video to component adapter. The plug on the video card has a bunch more pins than s-video, as you can see from the first picture. you need the dongle to split that into component and s-video.

yea the s-video connection is on the dongle, the s-video look alike connection on the card isnt s-video, WAAAAY to many pins on it

It offloads the video processing from your CPU to your video card. Try playing some of the Microsoft hi-def videos. It will most likley make your CPU run really high. With a 6800 and my P4 2.4 the movies take my CPU up to about 90% constant, if not more.

Odd cable, it just breaks the Svideo out into separate cables so it can be used for component input. The card probably just lets you send the hdtv signal over this 'svideo' link. You can get vga to component cables for other cards, or if you have a good tv you could just do dvi.

I dont understand, 80 dollar premium just for the dongle... Do that many ppl have only component inputs on your hdtvs?
Dvi and hdmi will accept pc signals with some work, even if the mfg states only for use with consumer devices.

It's also got 256MB RAM, but at a slower 600MHz. Kind of a lame card for the price, IMO. I'd wait for the January arrival of the $300-$350 X800XL, and buy an ATi component adapter.

BTW, as it's PCIe, it's probably using the new NV41 chip (see GamePC for a review of a MSI version). Crizazy.

Err, someone doesn't know what a component cable looks like. Composite carries a single video signal over one cable (i.e. the yellow RCA jack) whereas component splits a video signal into red, green, and blue over three separate cables.

Also, does any of you actually know anyone who has gotten an nVIDIA card to output an HDTV signal over the card's DVI port (I know it's supposed to be able to, however, I've only seen one or two posts on the AVS forum stating that a user actually got it to work)? If not, how else is someone supposed to get an HDTV signal from a graphics card to an HDTV? I don't know of any cards with HDMI ports, and the problematic DVI output seems to prohibit DVI's utility as well.

Yes...in fact at the last LAN party I went to, we hooked up my PNY 6800GT to a Sony HDTV over DVI and it worked perfectly; just had to turn on "overscan compensation" or something like that in the drivers so you could see the whole screen. But it still worked as soon as we connected it; I'm pretty sure it even displayed the stuff before Windows starts (BIOS and such). Here is a pic of HL2 on that HDTV. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. 🙂

It's at an $80 premium because PCIe 6800s are only available in small numbers right now.
