holy savings batman

I was able to save $180 every 6 months from my Geico auto insurance just for saying I'm married. I don't know how that even affects anything. Turning 25 dropped it less than $100. She also said males get the marriage discount more for some reason... my wife's policy drops $8.

$298/6 months liability now (NY). Saweet...

Do you have to show proof? Or do they just take your word? lol

She just took my word for it... they only asked if she had insurance also and I said yes also with Geico... she looked it up and put her name with my policy (even though she still has her own policy - her title on the car). They used it also to look up her drivers license #. Maybe the proof is in there ?

Now to save some cash on my home insurance by switching away from Geico... 😉

They take your word for it......

until you get in an accident. At that point, they will use your unmarried state as a reason not to cover you. Never lie on an insurance application unless you are prepared for them not to cover you when you need it the most.

In most states, presenting yourself as married=common law marriage...

I only save like $8 a month, that's from combining our car insurances together so we can drive each other's car legally. I did mention that I got married, so I don't think my state has marriage discount.

While that would be fraud, and a legal reason to deny the claim, I have never been asked to show my marriage license. I have been married for 5.5 years, and have filed claims in that time. Heck, my wife totaled my truck, if they would check, that would be the time...

piss on you all...i pay 586/mo for liability...
what kind of car, what's your age ?

I still can't believe they dropped it that much... was paying $476/6 months for an SUV and I'm over 25... makes you feel like you were overpaying for no good reason before.

You turned 25 dollars? How do I turn 25 dollars?? 😉

btw, congrats. 😛
Money on my mind. 😉 I'm still giddy after finding out I'm saving $400/year for doing nothing. I love my wife!

Phoenix86, your marriage license is a public record. They don't need you to show them anything to find out if you are married or not. They probably did check, and since you are actually married..........

My guess is that they will check. It doesn't seem like they are going to risk their money by giving discount rates without checking. Too much of that and it will eat into their pm.

Of course it is always possible that they can't or don't check everybody, so some folks get away with it.

21, 86 300zx turbo, lotsa speeding tickets...since ok has a point system once i get close to losing my license due to points i dont pay a ticket and it gets suspended, reinstate in a day ot two and points are reset to 0...i havent had any tickets in like 3 months though...so eventually my insurance should go down...

hell, i had to go to 5 insurance companies to find one that would even insure me...i was on my moms insurance for a while...that was nice...cost me like 60 a month...then i got this 300zx and when i tried to create a policy for it they ran my driving record and dropped me...

You know, maybe you should just take the bus. Seriously.

I'm 21 and pay about $300/6 months for liability+comprehensive with a $250 deductible...and I do speed, albeit within reason.
