My first reaction was to turn on my police scanner but then I saw that the OP is in Pittsburgh. I'm not sure I can get his local PD/fire from North Idaho.

I see this often in Manhattan, a stream of 20+ cruisers with sirens gunning down the street. I found out eventually those were rookies in training. They are usually accompanied by an ambulance just in case. So it may have been nothing for you.

I saw that happen once in Hartford. I was driving home around midnight on night and there were about 30-35 police cars getting on the other side of the highway from all directions. I'd never seen anything like it. And didn't hear anything in the news about it the next day either...

I'm thinking it must be something fatal then. Probably a huge accident.

This reminds me of last year I was coming home from work but my street was blocked by at least 10 cruisers, an ambulance, lot of people standing/walking around and other various vehicles. Was hard to tell what happened but I feared it may be a dead kid given there's a school near by.

Sure enough, it was a little girl that got ramed through the fence by a guy driving a pickup. he was not drunk or anything, never heard the real story but it turns out he had some kind of caugh attack and he lost control and his foot floored the pedal.

if you had a slice of pizza handy you should have pressed it up against the window as you watched the cars go by. that way you could recreate the intro to goonies when the fratellis escaped.

I saw the same thing in Bridgeport, at least 20 cars all heading to one spot from different directions. It would have bugged me not knowing the story, but luckily the paper had the news the next day. The cops were serving a warrant on a 10 most wanted type of criminal. He barricaded himself in a gas station and started firing on them, so pretty much every on duty car in the city made a beeline for that location. He was supposedly shouting out to them that they'd never take him alive and he proved to be right.

Check here and you might get lucky and find someone is streaming your local police scanner.

Ouch, as I was typing this a call went out here that two Pitbulls have killed a woman's cat in her back yard. :(
