8mbit DSL ?

All First Generation DSL Modems (1996-2001) were made to 6 meg DL spec 1meg Up.

Most units since 2002 can do 8 meg down even thought the spec was still 6 meg.

DSL 2 2nd Generation units can do 30 meg down.

If your Provider is tinkering with the DSLAM they may have opened up the ports while doing the work so you may be seeing full speed.

Qwest out in Colorado lets all of their End Users run wide open. If they have a Modem that can only do 6 meg that is what they get, if they have a newer unit that can do 8 they get 8 meg.

it's not that simple. The DSLAM needs the right LT cards to let the modem sync on that speed and your provider has to configure your port to allow that bitrate. I think dmcowen674 is talking about ADSL2+ and if I remember its maximum sync speed is 25mb and not 30mb.
