That is nothing unusual, the actual shower starts tomorrow night. For the shower, you will see 1-2 per minute.

I just spent 15 minutes outside and only saw one razor thin streak. I'm far enough away from DC to see the sky well. This is disappointing.

That doesn't seem like very many... I remember like 7 or so years ago we went a few miles into the country to see them and saw several a minute.

Thanks for the heads up. I was out for about 45 minutes. I definitely saw 5, might have seen as many as 8, but too often I see motion in the periphery of my field of vision that's not there.
One was quite nice though, very bright, and it left a long, glowing trail.

I'll have to check outside again tomorrow if it's clear.

The peak is tomorrow night. However, I have been out there to see these last night and the night before last night. I could see 10+ an hour.

These are no Leonids (November) but it's nice to have clear weather (for a change) to see them. In 24 hours we probably won't have the best (cloud) conditions but time will tell.

I'm in the middle of the Desert in Oregon at my Summer home. It's a small little town with very little light pollution and crystal clear nights. I wonder if I'll be able to see some.

Tried it last year and didn't see much. Then again, my night vision sucks anyway.

Too bad SLC lights the sky up like a christmas tree. I'll try and see what I can see but I am not counting on much.

I thought there must be one coming up soon; my girlfriend and I usually watch the sky while we talk on the phone at night, and we'd been seeing a marked increase of meteors in the past week or so. Looks like we're going to have to do some stargazing tomorrow night

Out here in the sticks, the number of stars you can see at night are practically uncountable (people visiting from just 10 minutes away have noticed the milky way for the first time in their lives.) A couple years ago, I was able to view hundreds per hour during one of the showers (Leonids, IIRC). I'll head out tonight and watch for an hour if the sky is clear.

That's the problem. My friends and I had a party for the 2001 Leonids which was a once in a lifetime meteor storm. Nothing since then has been worth watching.

I remember that. I was in Norway and I have to tell you it's a damn good thing I didn't do drugs because I would've freaked out seeing that sky. It was like someone was throwing matches from a single point and the heads were exploding mid flight. :Q

well i was watchin from 9 its 12:45 now, i saw a couple good ones, about 40 in all. but no spectacular stuff...... only one every 10 minuets. i didnt see more than 1 at one time. i thought i was supposed ot see like 50 in 5 seconds.

The orange glow in the sky from low pressure sodium lamps makes it hard to see any but the brightest.

On a semi-related note, on a flight I took over a week ago from Vegas to Calgary, I saw a meteor. It was way cool. We were obviously flying at night, and being 30,000ft+ up away from light pollution helped. It was magnificent.

hmm, I am in st louis and when I look to the east right now there are flashes of lightabout every 5 seconds. I don't know if it has something to do with this or is just really distant lightning.
