I CANT BELIEVE THIS SPEED FROM MY CABLE MODEM!!!!

i donwloaded this file in literally 3 or 4 seconds, too fast for me to take a screen shot when speeds were at 800KB/sec. this is coming from my cable modem where im used to getting 50KB/sec

My cable modem has gotten faster unexpectedly also. I remember RR contacting me about adding more IPs and doing maintenance, but I don't think that could have made it much quicker.

I'm guessing KB since he said he was getting 50/sec before. 800, that's pretty nuts. You sure it's not a software glitch? Your connection must be capped at something much lower than 800KB/sec. Sometimes I get readings way above what I'm actually getting.

So,
how long do you think it'll take before we can retrieve files on the Internet as if they were on our local disk??

5 yrs?
10?
20?

DSL @ 150k/sec satisfies my speed urges-no where near speed of local access, but the nature of the internet (various servers, if one has a slow link - your slowed up) probably will not allow it to ever be as fast as local harddrives will be at that time :p - Anybody know the bandwidth on fiber optic? With that stuff running to the home - o wow. For now I'll sit on my DSL :p

and thats with our current hard drive speeds, not the future :p

i believe that since quantum computing will be more commonplace, we will have new storage methods. i heard abouta company that is developing this techonlogy, and damnit, i cant find the name anywhere

You cable people will be crying when every porn addicted senior citizen in your neighborhood gets hooked up. I think DSL is the future. All I can get is IDSL now though at my home.. Which is only like 16-17k/sec.. Kinda sucks, but better than dialup.. Cable will be good though as long as they keep upgrading..

Hmm, all my freinds have Cable and I convinced all my co-workers to go with cable. Some live in the middle of nowhere, some where houses are in every nook and cranny. Everyone loves it and thinks it is faster than DSL. I never experienced "shared" slowdowns. Always fast.

/me knock on wood! :D

I would prefer fiber optics as the way of the future. :p

only then will the internet be as fast as our local disks. :)

Cable rocks if there's good infrastructure in the neighborhood. I was hitting 1 MB/sec (yes, that's right) speeds for peak on my RR cable. Then we moved. :( Now, I have a very crappy shared T1. Those were the good ol' days.
