Holy HIGH Chinese restaurant pricing

If the food is good, its worth it.

I've spent $14 on really shitty Chinese food and hated it afterwards.

I've spent a lot more for shitty american food. Yelp review gives this chinese restaurant 3.5 stars.

Save your time and money. That "casino" is nothing but a bunch of slots with a whopping two electronic craps tables and a handful of electronic roulette tables.

Expect to wait a couple of hours before anyone comes around to take a drink order, or if you're really thirsty you can always go to the bar and wait 30 minutes for a $15 scotch and soda.

Chinese food is cheap in NYC. That Genting Palace place is in the NYC casino which accounts for the prices.

I've had awesome authentic chinese food for $8 a plate and that was at a restaurant. Your average chinese food takeout will run you $5-$7 for a beef and broccoli.

I've spent $8 on beef & broccoli and it was an excellent meal. You said "its (sic) worth it." What is "it"? $20? $30? $50? I've had meals that were worth $60. There's no way in hell that any beef & broccoli dish at a Chinese restaurant is worth $60.

Worth $20 - perhaps, if a significant percentage of that value is due to convenience.

Asian food goodness is inversely proportional to the cleanliness of the restaurant.

This is the truth.

Also, Thai food is awesome, but around here (northern NJ) it is definitely a little more up-market than Chinese food.

The buffet down the road from me is $6/lb. That's the best Chinese I can find in the city. When I lived in Detroit, there was this hole in the wall place that was beyond words. They made your food while you waited and would make you whatever you wanted. Drunken noodles with spicy shrimp was my favorite. IIRC, it usually ran $18. But this was back when I was drinking and they stayed open late. We'd always head there after the bar.

It was more than worth it.

not around here. the 3 places i know of are VERY expensive.

the best bang for the buck is a Vietnamese place. for $7 for a take home dish and i get 2-3 meals.

Waggy: where you at? Up in the Mt. Prospect area theres a place called "Thai Little Home", awesome cheap thai.
