I bought a Duron 600 from the "for sale" board about 2 weeks ago. I just today got my A7V in the mail.

The guy told me that he ran it at 700 @ default voltage so I knew it could overclock a little.

He said he never tried any higher.

I payed $60 for the CPU.

It just POSTed at 11x102 = 1122Mhz. I haven't even modded the VRM yet!!!

1.122Ghz for $60

I LOVE AMD!!!
I LOVE AMD!!!!!

*grin*

This is the first Duron I've tried with. I doubt I'll match this again.

*smile*

Eric

Edit: I just got it to post at 1133MHz. It doesn't seem to be working at 1140 (95x12). Now to see if I can stabilize it at above 1050MHz- time to go install Winbloze.

Ahem. Nice that you're excited, but it would be a good idea to restrain your feelings. POSTing doesn't get you anywhere. If you can run stuff reliably at that speed, then that would be all good.

BTW, for reference, week 21 Duron 600s are not known to operate stable much above 850. Of course yours does seem to be a bit of an overachiever at default voltage.

posting means you can show a black screen with white text. if you can crunch with Seti then you'll have something.

case in point - my duron 650 can post at 950mhz, but would only run at 850 stably. its the only setting that wont crash in diabloII. :|

In my experience, a chip can generally run stable within 30-100mhz of where it can post. Since it will post near 1130-1150 I would expect it to run stable near 1050-1100.

Most 1GHz experiences (that I've seen) involve a VRM mod for 1.96 or 2.06V and even then won't post over 1.1Ghz.

I have gotten to dos and ran scandisk at 1122. I think with 2.0V I can get 1100 pretty well.

That's why I was excited.

no fun raining on my parade.

I've been busy or I'd have done it already ;-)

*grin*

I'll show you!!! *evil grin*

I use to have the problem with diablo II locking up with my C566@892, would only run at 632 stable. I am now running it again at 892, and playing diablo II.. it turns out that the power saving features where causing me my problems. I disabled all that in bios and in windows 98SE.
now it runs stable in everything...

Just have to say... I ALSO LOVE AMD! :)

I paid $75 shipped for my Retail D600, and it runs at 936 in Windows so far... So Cool!

Hi,
I have to agree with the posting thing, I can make my cpu post at over 1300 (107X12.5) but it only boots into windows and works stable at 1100, any FSB increase just jacks it up too.

Yeah definitely, congratz! I also lover AMD! I've been a long time fan of AMD for their 33% lower prices than Intel but now i think it's more than 33% and they give you four times the chip! $49 bought me my retail duron... all i have to do is ask you to look at my sig! :)

An update:

This CPU runs stable at 1074 (9.5x113) at 1.85V but I don't have the cooling to run it for extended periods. once it put it in the case and put the top on it, the temp quickly clibms to 65C. That is with a chrome orb plus 2 exhaust fans directly above the CPU and an Intake blowhole (cut in the side of the case panel) blowing directly on the lower part of the heatsink. I also have 2 intakes on the bottom front and a blowhole.

I can't cool this ah heck.

So I run it at 1Ghz (9.5x105) with 1.75V and it seems more stable. I've determined that the 133 bus speed is stable with a lower multiplier, so that's not the problem. I run my memory at 140 (105+35) CAS2.

So I'm pretty happy with this $57 CPU and the $9 HSF.

I have a T-Bird that does the same; 9.5x105 at 1.75v. It's the sweet spot. Temps are low with a GW VOS32.

Yup, I am in love with AMD too... duron 650@945 now and when i get more cooling hopefully i will do even better... i'm thinking about putting my pc up to my AC with the side of the case off and checking my preformance and temp... any thoughts??
