I still would pick the Lancer over the WRX for AutoX.

EDIT: It's obvious looking at the engines that the Lancer would be faster, and it was. But concerning other areas: steering, suspension, brakes; it seems the Lancer is a more faithful translation of performance than the WRX is. My guess is that Subaru will tune the STi to similar levels for a more direct comparison to the Lancer.

I still don't understand why the Scoob's headlights look like that. If it works in Japan, why change it?

For pure performance, the Evolution was the clear winner. It was faster and more capable in every category.

Imagine that. The red-headed stepchild of the Japanese car world. Who'd of thunk it?

"As we climbed the Grapevine on Interstate 5 (a taxing incline that slows the weak and unprepared)"

The Grapevine is a wussy grade

interesting, but sorta like comparing say... a mustang gt to a z06. sure, they're both performance cars, but one is a lot more track-ready than the other.

VW might have a fast new car but I hope you don't want customer service with that. VW's relationship with customers has gone down the crapper. They have fallen to the bottom of the recent polls on customer service. VW is going to have problems when this generation of vehicle buyers wants a new care because most of them aren't going back to VW. You have been warned.

Now, Subaru has excellent customer relations and they do care about their cars.

even a water sprayer that automatically squirted water onto the front-mount intercooler when high temperatures dictated.

Whao.

I wonder can I hack that thing so I use the windshield wiper knob to activate it instead.

doesn't really matter, there's enough suckers out there who want to buy those bugs anyway.

LMAO they hit a 15 flat @ 90.4 mph in the 1/4 with the WRX

Thats f'n pathetic. Who'd they have driving, a senior citizen? I've seen WRXs put down 14.4s-14.6s without monster clutch dumps.

I don't understand why they did this comparison... like vidgamefan said, shouldn't the Evo VII be compared to the WRX STi?

carmakers are weird like that... remember the front end on the Integras? At first they were unique only to the JDM Type-R's, but then were used throughout the entire Integra lineup. Yet, we in the US still got the ugly four-eyed monster :( I'm still waiting for the day where I get in a front end accident where it's not my fault so that I can get a JDM front end with HIDs :p Get used to it, those of us in the States will always get the finger when it comes to nice cars. Especially those of us in California :| remember the last model year of the Supra TT? It was only available in California in an automatic because of those damn emissions :p

Can you see where this is leading? Yep, it's the making of a 2003 bantamweight title fight ? Evolution vs. WRX: Stateside Rumble. To get a sneak preview, we got our hands on a 2002 Lancer Evolution VII GSR and a 2002 Impreza WRX. Admittedly, this wasn't a fair fight. Our 276-hp left-hand-drive Evo was brought over from Germany by Mitsubishi as a demonstration car for journalists. It bristled with flashy hardware like mutant-size Brembo brakes, a computer-controlled Active Center Differential and even a water sprayer that automatically squirted water onto the front-mount intercooler when high temperatures dictated. We've been told that the 2003 U.S. version won't be quite as hard-core. Official information is due to be released in early January 2003.

Oh well. I never liked the look of the lancer that much, but then its got the power. I think the WRX is ugly too. I'd take that new A4 coupe any day. When I'm in a cushy job, I wan't a comfy ride to work, and I'll get a bike for weekends.
